If you cannot see the model when you edit the cross-section, have a look at the Property Browser on the left side and switch between the settings Hide All and Display All.
The two solid modeling kernels Parasolid and ACIS manages some properties a little bit different, such as the Tangent Factor for Loft Planes which are Associated to a Face. The ACIS kernel usually manages this and other settings and shapes better in general, for free form shapes like the ones we can do with the Loft tools. There will be more work which involves the kernels when editing imported models further ahead.
Tip: It is also possible to change the primary kernel for a Part by selecting it and move to the Property Browser which is available at the bottom left corner of the window. In it, you can also manage values like User Name, Part Number, Description, Material and the default kernel for the selected part.
